The “Teachers, Teaching, and the Movies” conference begins today.

The English Department, Film Studies Program, and School of Education, Health, and Human Performance, is sponsoring an interdisciplinary conference that will focus on the representations, both good and bad, of teachers and teaching in mainstream narrative cinema. The conference is scheduled for today and tomorrow. The keynote speaker is Henry A. Giroux, the Global Television Network Chair in English and Cultural Studies at McMaster Universityand author of several books and articles on education policy, film, and popular culture. Also speaking is Robert Bulman, Associate Professor of Sociology at St. Mary’s College of California. Bulman is the author of Hollywood Goes to High School.
