Tonight the Film Club will screen the next installment in the True Indy series, the film Swingers (1996). The film is directed by Doug Liman and written by Jon Favreau (who also stars). This indie film became a huge box office hit and, in doing so, launched the career of Vince Vaughan, who plays Trent Walker, a would-be “swinger” (in Los Angeles lingo, a “swinger” is a guy, usually in his mid-twenties to early-thirties, who goes to martini bars, listens to lounge music, can quote from the original Ocean’s Eleven, lives—or aspires to live—in the 310 area code) who tries to help his best friend Mike (played byFavreau) get over a recent breakup with his girlfriend and join the “swingers” scene.
