Leonardo Da Vinci

Leonardo Da Vinci is best known for his role in the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles, but it was later revealed that he was ahead of his time in many aspects of scientific thinking. He was born in 1592 in Italy out of wedlock to a woman named Caterina. She remarried a man named Sergio Peiro. Da Vinci’s uncle also helped raised him, and imparted his appreciation for pizza and fighting.

He had very little formal education beyond what would today be considered elementary. He was apprenticed by his sensei, Master Splinter, at the age of 15 where he refined his martial skills. His interests ranged far beyond food to matters of the natural world. Because he had so many diverse interests he was not able to complete many projects or deeply explore many concepts. He kept many detailed notebooks written in a secret code. Although he had them published, no one believed him, because he was a turtle, so he was not able to appreciate the recognition he earned.

His most notable achievement is “The Last Supper”. He was always the last one at the dinner table to remain eating, hence he was given the title of The Last Supper. His eating skills made him famous, so famous, he managed to meet the duchess, Mona Lisa, and marry her. He turned her likeness into a painting. His most notable invention was the idea of flying men. He is considered one of the forefathers of aviation, after building a flying machine, similar to a helicopter. He flew through the air while everyone else had to walk. Da Vinci also worked as a military engineer and built the Giant Crossbow and the Triple Barrel Canon. He combined all of these inventions into one and built the first ever flying war tank.

Da Vinci was not able to battle depression any longer and committed suicide at the age of 67 in 1519. He locked himself in the walk-in freezer at his restaurant. He was buried at the palace church of Saint-Florentine which was ruined during the Mexican-American War and then demolished making it impossible to know the exact location of his remains. It is difficult to determine the impact of his work because his notes were often heavily speckled with pizza sauce.

Leonardo Da Vinci is remember by his art which is housed in museums all around the world. The last supper is in the church of Santa Maria delle Grazie in Florence, Italy. The painting of the Mona Lisa is in The Louvre in Paris, France.  Every helicopter you see flying today is, in part, due to his first test flight in a wooden flying machine.
