Can AI generate art?

I believe that AI can generate basic art, however, I do not believe that AI can encapsulate the emotion and depth of art that humans are able to create. With that being said, AI is proven to be capable of generating images or creating them based upon human ideas and input. It can learn by human input to create images or use databases on the internet in order to create a picture, for example, a lion, a tree, or something of that nature. However, I do not believe that AI is able to create emotion and creativity behind a piece of artwork. What makes art so unique and different from the rest is the meaning and purpose behind a work of art. Artist create these pieces from moments of inspiration from either the world around them or another artist works, which AI would never be able to do. Humans have more depth than AI could ever have or obtain, this is what separates creative abilities between the two. Humans have been able to capture emotion through their art in works like portraits where you can read emotion and experience through the persons facial expression and leads the audience to question the art deeper and try to generate or create a meaning behind it. AI is very black and white in my opinion, unable to depict these hidden meanings and ideas behind artwork that humans have created for years. Humans are able to use AI to create art in numerous ways, such as asking prompts to dramatize an image or create it in larger quantities, but as stated in Everything Is a Remix, Kirby Ferguson, AI is only able to use things already produced by humans. So, AI will generate ideas that have already existed, it cannot create anything new or unthought of that has not been done or seen before. This is why humans can ask it to create things already available through the internet because that is all AI has access to, while humans create new ideas and creations every day. Humans may use AI to aid them in adding new colors or details to help their art create more details or intricate designs to add to their work but not necessarily create their whole piece. I believe if they fully used AI to do this it would make the art lose any meaning or respect since the artist did absolutely nothing in order to create the piece of art. The whole point behind art is the endless work and hours put into it, that’s what makes it so special to the viewer. Walking through galleries and museums, it seems surreal to believe a person could create a masterpiece or even have the ability to do so. Many artists spend their whole lives working or with the hope that they could create something so special the world will know their name like the great artists we all study in school or look up to. This is something AI could never live up to. Ai can be used as a tool; However, I do not believe that it is able to generate art to the human extent.
