A Different World

Montana Flynn

Nature all around

Living of how it was found

Alone but surrounded with sound

The great wonder of the world

All in my hands

Canoeing along

Bathing in ponds

I aspire to be the one

With my mate

Never wanting to be done

What a new place

New thoughts about the case

Never being in a race

Peaceful and great

A new mindset sprung apon

A state of mind that will never erase

Adventure everyday

I love to lay

Soak in the sun

And hike up and run

A memorable time

I will cherish and wisp on with wine

The beauty of it all will never fall from my mind

Glad not to be spending a dime

I wrote this poem by trying to imagine how this guy’s life is as he went on this expedition into the rivers of Ecuador and the Andes mountain. I now realize this picture was made from a sketch of what this guy saw but at first I thought it was him in the canoe exploring the rivers rather than someone else living their life. I focused more on the art itself but I also did incorporate my background knowledge of knowing they were on expedition and I was able to vividly imagine it because I’ve been on a trip similar to this one. I like when poems rhyme because sometimes it makes it flow better so I incorporated it into my poem. I broke the lines kind of just because it felt right to do so. I did not try to emulate a certain poem or poet, I was just being creative and wanted to explain what was going on for the person in the painting.
