Loves Challange
Heroes, so strong and courageous
Powerful and fearless

They are what others strive to be
They are admired by all but understood by none
The hero yearns to be loved
But battle takes him far from home
Whilst he’s gone, he finds a beauty
He yearns to bring her home
But the ocean dares not let her pass,
And let the hero succeed
Taking her victims one by one
She shall not let him win
Steadfast on the path, his eyes set on home
He holds her tightly to his chest
His missing piece, his other half
He dared not let her go
He faces on till daybreak comes
Hoping to find love in someone new
Explanation: The poem struck my immediate attention in the museum because it had so much emotion in it. I saw the man grasping onto the woman, almost as if yearning for her, fearing to let go. He did not seem to care about the other men falling overboard, which is why I was led to believe they were in love. The mean looks like how I would imagine a soldier/hero from around ancient Greece/Roman times. I wanted ot make it a love story about the hero and the woman because the path to love is never easy, and I felt as though the ocean symbolized the challenges and how, from the start, there will always be people or things against you. I didn’t want to rhyme because I wanted it to seem more like a story and more imaginable. I felt as though the rhyme would take away the imagery and make the reader focus more on the words. I didn’t want there to be a pattern to focus on, but rather the words and how I interpreted the artwork.
