This is an album by the “indie” art rock group TV on the Radio which is made up of the members Dave Sitek, Tunde Adebimpe, Kyp Malone, Jaleel Bunton, and Gerard Smith. The group in general is different from the largely white bands that are involved in the pop-indie rock movement due to the mostly African American members of the band (4 out of 5). However, this album (and the band) is not meant to narrate a difference in rock musical expression, rather the experimental nature of the album shows that TVOTR was attempting to participate in a new overall movement of indie rock. For example, the song “Wolf Like Me” is a driving rock song that uses similar synthesizers seen in other indie rock songs as well as nontraditional drum rhythms (not 1,3 backbeat) that are categorical of indie rock.
