It’s hard to top studying in Charleston, but the experience to study in Reggio Emilia, Italy is not a bad alternative. Dr. Tracey Hunter-Doniger traveled with students to Italy to study the Reggio Approach to teaching. This approach to education is focused around letting the child be in control of their learning and allowing them to explore their interests. The students on this trip were able to see the method practiced in a real classroom to learn how they may incorporate aspects of a Reggio school to their future classrooms.
This experience was a joint venture with the University of South Carolina and Clemson University. Students had the opportunity to observe at five schools and taught a lesson in English about the United States. While there, they toured a cheese factory, Venice and Florence. Each year, this opportunity provides an enriching learning experience for our teacher education students!
