Alumni Spotlight: Emily Reichbach ’12

Posted by: murphys2 | June 27, 2019 | No Comment |

Emily is passionate about the education of her students and their growth emotionally and socially. She will be teaching 4th grade at a partial magnet school in North Charleston. This past year allowed her to grow professionally in her position as District Teacher of the Year for Berkeley County School District and allowed her to connect with people across the state. In her year, she created a Teacher Forum social media presence to help celebrate BCSD teachers and share information. Emily is proud of the work accomplished this year and is hopeful the next year will be a more effective format that strengthens the voice of BCSD teachers.

She advises undergraduates to become knowledgeable and aware of educational policies and legislation.

“Our profession is going through major changes as teacher voice has strengthened. I encourage teachers to not fall victim to burn out due to policy and mandates by the state. Educators need to follow their passion and be confident in their classroom, they are the expects of their students, no one else.”

Listen to Emily speak at the board meeting before the teacher rally in Columbia, SC on May 1, 2019 advocating for students and teachers.

Emily was also featured in a Live 5 News’ Everyday Hero Segment.
