The Computer Science Department would like to congratulate Blaine Billings who has been awarded the Naval Research Enterprise Internship (NRIEP) 10-week summer internship at SPAWAR, San Diego, CA.
NREIP provides an opportunity for students to participate in research at a Department of Navy (DoN) laboratory during the summer.
The goals of NREIP are to encourage participating students to pursue science and engineering careers, to further education via mentoring by laboratory personnel and their participation in research, and to make them aware of DoN research and technology efforts, which can lead to employment within the DoN.
Billings said he learned about the internship through the Cyber Security Club as well as through family friends. He applied because of his interests in cyber security and notes that NREIP has offices all over the country and offers internships in disciplines other than cyber security. As an intern, Billings will have to get a security clearance before starting his internship so does not yet know exactly what he will be working on, except that it will be related to the field of cyber security. He looks forward to spending time in San Diego.
Applications for NRIEP internships open every winter for students interested in working over the summer.
