The department welcomed 22 teachers from middle and high schools in South Carolina for the annual workshop, “Adventures in Alice Programming.” From June 20-27, 2016, teachers learned the programming language and developed curriculum and lesson plans to integrate Alice into their discipline. Taught by Senior Instructor RoxAnn Stalvey, Alice is a 3D virtual worlds programming environment that makes it easy to create animations for either storytelling or interactive games.
The workshop, funded by the National Science Foundation, fosters a positive experience with computing and programming. The knowledge will easily transfer to curriculum taught by the teachers with the goal to increase awareness of computing to students. Thus, resulting in students more likely to choose and succeed in a computing major.
