We are pleased to announce that Dr. Sebastian van Delden has joined the College of Charleston community as the Chair of the Department of Computer Science!
Sebastian received his Ph.D. in Computer Science from the University of Central Florida and was the Department Head of Computer Science and Industrial Technology at Southeastern Louisiana University. At Southeastern, he managed six degree programs in the department, which had approximately 1,100 students and 30 faculty members.
Prior to SELU, Sebastian was at the University of South Carolina Upstate for about ten years where he was an Associate Professor of Computer Science and also the Director of Research. At USC Upstate, he received annual awards for Teaching, for Research and for Service to the University. With a current research interest in visual and voice guided industrial robotic, Sebastian has about 30 articles published in peer-reviewed, scholarly Journals or Conference Proceedings.

Originally from a small Dutch island in the Caribbean called Saba, Sebastian has been a US Citizen since 2009 and is married to Elizabeth and has two beautiful daughters, Ava and Isabella.
