Hey! My name is Genevieve Bushey and I am a junior at the College of Charleston majoring in Business Administration. I am currently studying abroad for the semester in Rome, Italy at John Cabot University.
The University is in the heart of Trastevere, which is a small part of Rome that is known for their piazzas, amazing food, and shops! I couldn’t ask for a better location and this reason was a major factor for choosing what program I wanted to do abroad. I wanted a big city, but not something too chaotic, which is what made Rome a perfect match. Rome is very calm and mellow and the people here are unbelievably friendly. But Rome is also very large, giving me so many things to do, so I am never bored. Rome is one of the biggest cities in Europe decorated with classical architecture everywhere.
During this time abroad I had hoped to travel as much as I could on the weekends and really take advantage of being able to easily explore all of Europe. This is something I have accomplished and am still pursuing! After this semester I will have been to 13 countries…counting Vatican City. Another goal I had for myself was to try typical foods of the countries I am visiting. This is one way I am able to really experience the culture of all these new places.
The amount of research I did prior to coming to Rome and abroad in general was a lot. I wanted to make sure that I was in a safe area. I wanted to make sure I was able to easily get to class or other activities and not be reliant on public transportation. Something I truly love about Rome is that you can walk everywhere, similar to that of Charleston.
