Hello, my name is Rebecca Davis, and I am a rising senior. I am a Chemistry major and a Psychology minor at the College of Charleston, and this summer I spent two weeks in Ecuador on a study abroad trip with the Water Quality Chemistry for Sustainability program. I chose this program because I wanted to experience chemistry outside of the classroom and in a way that can help those who don’t have access to clean drinking water. Some goals I set for myself during this trip were to use this opportunity to learn from the communities we visited in order to find ways of being more sustainable in my everyday life and to utilize my four years of Spanish while in Ecuador. Before I left for my trip, I did some research on the water quality and sustainable practices that are seen in the areas we planned to visit, such as their techniques in agriculture and making their own fertilizers.
