Learning Everywhere by Vineel Prathipati

For me there is no one best study abroad day, each day raises the bar higher and higher for the next day. A typical day for us would be waking up and going to get a nice Parisian breakfast and then head straight to lecture. After lecture we would all meet up and head to a different major attraction/museum each day. These museums were often my favorite part of the experience, as I am taking a public health course here, it was great to discuss some topics in lecture and then moments later be able to witness the public health phenomenon in which we have just discussed. Then after we tire ourselves out with all the walking around the city, we stop for a good old authentic dinner with the group to commence and recap the day. Often, we eat at different locations but, one of our favorite things to do is grab some dinner and sit down in the huge courtyard behind our university. This is one of my favorite things to do as I get a chance to immerse myself with the locals and enjoy a meal with the great view of the Cité Universitaire. Each day usually follows a similar layout to this but no two days are the same. Some days our class would just be field learning or listening to a guest lecturer, for example one of my favorites, a speaker from the World Health Organization. One of the most important things that I have learned while studying abroad is that your experience will be completely based on what you are willing to give it. If you allow yourself to be open to new experiences and talk to locals and get to truly learn, you will in fact be one step closer to the life-changing experience that many desire. It took me a few days to realize this initially, but once I learned to allow myself to be susceptible to the culture/atmosphere, the quality of my study abroad greatly improved.
