It was bittersweet coming home. I missed my family and friends but I had a new family and new friendships that I was sad to leave behind. Going to Spain was a life changing experience. I am so grateful that I got to go and meet all these amazing people and that I got see and learn so much about Spain. In the past I’ve thought living abroad for a few years but now I’m sure that it’s something that I want to do. I want to live in a foreign country and learn their language and their culture. Where? I don’t know yet but now I’m sure that I would be able to adapt quickly.
Studying abroad is something that I think every college student should do if they are able to. It’s a great opportunity to meet new people from a different culture and learn how people around the world live because sometimes people take for granted the commodities that living in the US has. It’s also a great opportunity for students to learn more about themselves and gain some independence. Most importantly it will teach them responsibility and hold themselves accountable.
One of the most important tips I can give future students that want to study abroad is to budget themselves. It’s so easy to spend money little by little but it eventually adds up and you end up spending more money than you intended to. My recommendation is to give yourself a certain amount weekly and stick to it. That was coming home you’ll have some money left over and won’t feel guilty or broke. That’s just my opinion and what worked for me.
I’m sad that this experience has ended but I know that it’s just the beginning of a new chapter in my life. I will always be grateful for my family and friends who supported me on this beautiful journey as well as the school and people that made studying abroad possible. It will always be one of the greatest experience of my life. Thank you!
