Goodbye Trujillo by Sarah Holcomb

I’m finally back home in South Carolina after a very busy three months abroad in Trujillo, Spain. I am very happy to be back and see my family and friends, but it was really hard to leave my new home. Just as I began to get comfortable in Spain, it was time to go home. I had to say goodbye to my host family which was very hard. I tried to communicate as best as I could how grateful I was for them and how I hope to see them again someday. I reminisce on the first couple weeks and how I thought it was the longest weeks of my life. I kept asking myself, what did I get myself into? Shortly after those weeks passed, it seemed to fly by. I wanted time to slow down. I strolled around the city the day before I left to try to soak it all in. I reminded myself of just how special Trujillo was and how it will remain a part of my life.

Before I left for study abroad, I felt like I was in a rut and was in need for a change. I kept questioning whether or not I should actually go but I am so glad I did. This experience is something that I will never forget and always cherish. I have met some of the most amazing people that I will be lifelong friends with and I am so happy we got to share the same experiences together. I cannot wait to see them when I return to Charleston for school. This trip has opened my eyes to other cultures and has inspired me to learn more. I have a newfound desire to travel and experience different cultures for myself although it can be terrifying.
