A Love Letter to Osaka City! by Nathaniel Mejia

Last time, I talked about the Bamboo Trail in Kyoto. This time, I want to focus more on city life—specifically, that of Osaka! I’ve had the opportunity to explore many different parts of Japan, from Kyoto to Nara to my local Kansai area. However, Osaka has to be my favorite place to explore, with its vibrant nightlife, amazing food, and abundance of activities.

If you’re a history buff, Kyoto is the place to be, with numerous temples and shrines to explore and learn about. However, Osaka is the most entertaining place in Japan that I’ve been blessed to experience. Osaka, specifically Namba is home to a variety of shopping centers, ranging from spots to take idol-style photos and anime stores packed with merchandise from your favorite shows and manga, to shops filled with candy and food spaced abundantly throughout. I can wholeheartedly recommend much of the food sold here. However, if you want a better deal, make an effort to leave the main tourist spots and explore side alley restaurants for more authentic Japanese cuisine—or even to sample one of Japan’s favorite pastimes, drinking.

I can’t recommend Osaka enough to tourists looking to experience a concentrated explosion of modern Japanese culture. There’s nowhere else like it, and the experience would be well worth your while!

P.S. Make sure to visit major tourist spots to take photos of landmarks such as The Running Man sign and the Takoyaki Store.
