Living Like a Local by Izzy Garcia

Nice offers a bunch of different foods to try! The favorite thing I have had so far is croque monsieur, which is essentially a ham and cheese sandwich with a bechamel sauce on the inside. Nice also has a lot of Italian food, so I have had lots of pasta and pizza. Something I was reluctant to try when I came here was seafood, but after some hesitation I finally caved in and now I love it! Another thing I have come to love here is coffee and pastries. Most cafes and brasseries offer a breakfast plate, which usually includes bread, usually ham, cheese, an egg, a pastry, and freshly squeezed orange juice. It’s delicious! However, if there is one thing I could recommend, it would have to be the gelato here. I have found that it is really easy to connect with the locals and most French people are kind and speak English. My typical day in Nice usually includes going to class, drinking coffee at a local cafe, walking with friends on the beach, and studying back home or in a group setting. The weather lately has been wonderful, so a lot more people have been going to the beach and starting to swim in the water. Some other things that I like to do if I have free time is take walks along the promenade, or go on hikes to villages close by. I spend majority of my time alone, which at first was really hard to get used to, but now I am enjoying have time to myself to learn about Nice. Being independent while studying abroad is something that inevitably everyone will have to learn. I also am living by myself, so I like to get out a little bit more to have more social interactions.
