During the last month of my time abroad I did more traveling to London, Ibiza, Granada, and two cities in the north of Spain called Logroño and Pamplona. Logroño is Spanish wine country and is a small town whereas Pamplona hosts the “running of the bulls” and a tomato throwing festival called la Tomatina. Throughout my traveling experiences I have realized that you really do not have to bring that much with you and you are able to travel on a budget and do a lot. I got around on planes, trains, and buses with my only luggage being a bookbag. Towards the end of my time, I started to mentally prepare coming back home to the states since I had a 13-hour travel back and to also prepare for the culture shock of coming back home. Since being back I realize that where I live nothing is walkable and you need a car to get around since there is not any form of public transportation. Everybody at the grocery store will smile and say hello and the workers will talk to you and ask about your day whereas in Spain they do not speak to you while checking you out and nobody really pays you any attention. I have enjoyed being able to wear Nike shorts and a t-shirt to go out to run errands and not have to dress up too much because in Spain you at least had to wear jeans and a nicer top since “athleisure” does not exist. One thing that I wish I would have known before studying abroad was that you can buy a lot of the things that you are unsure about bringing while abroad and to maybe bring a couple of photos to tape on the wall. Since I studied during the Winter/Spring season a lot of the sweaters that I brought took up a lot of room therefore I needed two suitcases, but I did not really wear my sweatpants too much because I was always out of the apartment doing something. I really wish to go back already, and I miss the friends I made deeply and we are all already planning on meeting up sometime in the near future. 🙂
