Some of my best days abroad have been going to see some of the iconic sights of France. I love going to see the Eiffel tower, Arc de Triomphe, Champs-Élysées, Versailles, The Louvre, Musée d’Orsay, and so much more. I also loved seeing the ocean and beaches in Nice, although the water was pretty rough. Pretty much every day abroad has been the best, I have no complaints. My academic experience has been completely different in the best way compared to taking courses on campus. The course is focused more on hands-on learning and seeing things abroad instead of being more assignment based. Of course, we still had a couple of assignments, but I found them to be very simple because we were living and learning our course every day. One of the historic sites I have visited while in Paris is the Musée d’Orsay. This is a famous museum filled with many well-known artists’ works such as Edouard Manet, Claude Monet, Pierre-Auguste Renoir, Vincent van Gogh, and Edgar Degas. Many of these artist’s paintings are ones that I have seen my entire life and to be able to get as close as seeing the brush strokes in person was incredible. Another historic sight I saw while on a walking tour in Paris was the oldest clock in the city. It is located on the Île de la Cité and was commissioned by Charles V in 1370 for the north-east tower of Palais de la Cité. It was designed by Henri de Vic and installed in 1371. The architecture in all of France is incredible and to know that it has been kept in good condition for hundreds and even thousands of years is mind blowing. I have learned so much about myself and the world while I’ve been abroad and will be forever grateful for this experience. I learned that I am very capable of being on my own, even in a completely different country, and am not afraid to put myself out there to gain knowledge or experience.
