As a reward for completing our first three weeks of classes here in Japan, my friends and I decided to take a trip to Nara the following Sunday. For those who do not know what Nara is, Nara is a very popular prefecture in Japan that is known for their temples, shrines and most famous of them all, the bowing Deers. We left pretty early as we wanted to get the most out of our day. It is about a 45-minute train ride, switching from about three different trains in total. It may sound sort of difficult, but you eventually get used to the train system here. Finally, after what felt like forever we arrived at Nara! We went straight to the deers straight away. For about $3 you can buy a stack of deer crackers which is very important! If you don’t have food then the deer wants nothing to do with you or some may even head-butt or nimble on you, so please beware before walking up to a deer empty handed. Once we made it out alive from the deers, we went to visit the Great Buddhist Hall, a must see if you are ever in Japan. The Hall is huge, and I mean huge. It was so cool seeing the small details in the building’s structure. It was even cooler learning about Buddhism and how they practice their beliefs. If so far, none of these have caught your attention, Nara is also known for its beautiful scenery. The parks and gardens there are absolutely breath-taking. You can’t help but fall in love with the place. If you ever find yourself in Japan, Nara is a must visit place that everyone will enjoy for many different reasons. Whether it’s the deer, the temples or even the beautiful scenery, Nara is quite lovely! Can’t wait to go back!
