We took a ferry to Cape Clear Island. There was a beautiful hike led by the very knowledgeable Seamus O’Driscoll (turns out he’s on the Hidden Ireland show on Prime Video). We could see Fishnet Rock, the lighthouse that was often the last thing Irish immigrants would see leaving Ireland for what was often the first and last time, so it was often referred to as the teardrop. While on Cape Clear Island we got to hold a baby goat. It kept nodding off in my lap. It was so sweet and cute. The Kid’s mother (baby goat’s mother) kept a very close eye on her baby. On our way back to the dock for the ferry (the second half of the hike) we came to a beachy area with the most serene and icy blue pristine waters. It was probably my favorite hike so far. I was extremely surprised on the ferry to and from Cape Clear Island because typically I get motion sick but not on the ferry rides. To my pleasant surprise I loved the ferry. I saw dolphins which is not by any means the first time I have seen dolphins since I am from Florida and there are dolphins in Charleston as well. However, it was so exciting to see dolphins actively hunting while out in the ocean on a boat. It is always exciting to see dolphins but the circumstances of being on boat in Ireland to and from a gorgeous island where I held a baby goat made spotting them stupendously and unequivocally positively magical. I now have a great love for being on the water and cannot get enough of it.
