My name is Delaney Carlisle, and I am a first-year graduate student at the College of Charleston receiving my Master of Science in Child Life. I received my Bachelor of Science in Psychology from the College of Charleston and am studying abroad in Florence, Italy with professors Susan Simonian, Marinella Griffith, and Morgan Ford. I have chosen this specific program in Florence Italy because as a MS in Child Life student, we have the opportunity to work in the hospital setting and compare the healthcare systems in Italy to the United States. We also get to help facilitate developmentally appropriate programs in preschools and local gardens for the children of Florence, Italy. For my time abroad I hope to expand on my knowledge of how language barriers can be overcome when working with children in different settings as well as expanding my knowledge on culture in another country. Before coming to my host country, I did not engage in much research but engaged in conversations with my professors about what to expect and what we would be doing while in our host country.
