Introduction by Dane Shuart

Hi!
My name is Dane Shuart and I just finished my freshman year at the College of Charleston. I am currently a finance major with a double minor in economics and religious studies. Over the Maymester, I will be studying abroad in Israel for religious studies.
I chose the study abroad trip to Israel because I became extremely fascinated with religious studies after taking my first Jewish studies course this year. I believe it will be very interesting to see how the country functions on a religious note. Along with that, I think it will be very interesting to see how I can better understand the Israeli economy after being there for two weeks.
Some goals I have set for myself before going there are being extremely active and observant. When I am in Israel, I want to appreciate everything I have the opportunity to see. Therefore, I will take many pictures, be as adventurous as possible, and try every food I can!
Before the trip, most of my research has been centered around food! I am very excited to try the hummus, falafels, and shawarmas! Asides from that, I have somewhat refrained from doing too much research because I look forward to the surprise.
