My name is Loral Stinson and I am a sophomore in the honors college, majoring in Communication and minoring in Spanish. I am studying abroad in Trujillo, Spain.
I chose the Trujillo program because I wanted to strengthen my Spanish speaking skills while living in a close-knit town. My program is CofC-led, meaning my classes are taught by two Spanish professors from Charleston, along with local professors from a neighboring city. Having professors from the College makes the transition to a new environment much easier.
My classes are held in a restored convent, called La Coria. Classes are held Monday through Thursday, allowing me and my peers to travel on weekends. For full immersion into the Spanish culture and language, I live with a host family who encourages me to participate in constant conversation.
During my time abroad, I hope to create a meaningful relationship with my host family, travel to other countries, and learn something new every day. Before arriving in Trujillo, I researched the weather, surrounding cities, and common phrases in Spain.
