Hey guys! My name is Kiley Pettit, and I am a junior here at the College of Charleston. I am majoring in Communication and double minoring in Dance and Marketing. In this introduction, I bring you to a rather chaotic setting as I am currently sitting in my Charleston apartment which is covered in luggage, papers marked with travel information, and, of course, an endless pile of clothing as my roommate and I await our arrival to Europe in less than five days! For the span of over just two weeks, I will be traveling to Paris, France; Brussels, Belgium; and Berlin, Germany with the College’s Dance Department. I am so excited to be a part of this amazing program because I have always wanted to explore different parts of the world, and what better way to do that than a study abroad program! As a dance minor, I saw this program as an opportunity to get credits through experiences outside of the classroom—because a girl’s gotta graduate on time! But, I also saw this opportunity as a way to fully emerge myself in different artistic cultures. Furthermore, as an avid dancer ever since I was two years old, I felt as though this was the perfect program to explore different countries while gaining a new cultural perspective on the art that I am so very passionate about. Since this will be my first experience overseas, I really want to have an open mind and be ready to experience whatever sights I stumble upon! I also want to have at least one successful interaction in a different language. As far as planning goes, for the past month, I may have been taking pre-departure research a little too seriously and can probably tell you everything that the Parisians do not want Americans to do while visiting Paris. But overall, I familiarized myself with the three different cultures that I will be experiencing and have picked up some basic greetings in both French and German. Okay, that is enough about me. The next time you will hear from me, I will be in Paris! Au Revoir!
