G’day mate! My name is Kayla Kozak. I am a junior majoring in business administration with a minor in political science. I decided to come to Sydney, Australia for several reasons. I like that the main language is English so that I can fully immerse myself in the culture and better understand it. I also like that it is a safe/healthy place that has a relatively good political relationship with the United States. Being that I have a full semester abroad, I wanted to travel somewhere that I may otherwise not have the opportunity for such a long period of time. When will I be able to come to Australia like this again? I have also made a few goals for myself while overseas. I want to go outside of my comfort zone and do things I wouldn’t normally do, such as try hip-hop dance classes, be more social, and go on exciting excursions. This is a chance for me to learn about myself and the world from both inside and outside of the classroom, which is priceless! My uni, as they call it in Australia, is among one of the best ranked institutions in the world. The University of New South Wales, or UNSW, has recently changed its calendar from a semester system to trimesters to accommodate for a growing number of international students and their schedules. As a result, the same amount of material will be in less time, so I must stay focused. The grading system is also different, with average grades being much lower than the United States but are still considered good marks. For example, it is extremely rare to get into the 90-100% range here but is much more common in the USA. I will be taking four courses: Entrepreneurial Ecosystems, Cultural Sydney, Marketing, and Management, which transfer directly into my degree at CofC! Overall, I am excited about what I’ve discovered so far and look forward to what the future holds!
