The Center for Student Learning (CSL) celebrated its 40th year of service to the students at the College of Charleston this past year. CSL started the year off with an open house in September 2014 and ended the year with a tent at the College’s alumni event, A Charleston Affair on Saturday, May 9 and Sunday, May 10, 2015.

Melissa Thomas, the CSL Director, said it was “a delight to engage with alumni from across the years at the Saturday evening event and even more fun to send our graduates off in style on Sunday night! Saturday night we had information and small chocolates to share with the new College logo and Sunday night we shared some cake with our 46 graduating student employees!”

This effort marks the beginning of a CSL campaign to reach out and reconnect with more than 1,000 previous student employees from the past 10 years.

The Center for Student Learning has grown from a Communications Skill Center (as part of the Counseling Center) in 1974 to a large department within the Office for the Academic Experience, employing 5 full time staff and more than 150 students who provide peer education through tutoring, supplemental education, and academic coaching. This past year, over 4,400 students visited the Center for Student Learning in the Addlestone Library.
