Are you thinking of taking a day trip to the beautiful Sperlonga, Italy? Follow along for the must have’s and must do’s. Put on your brightest bikini, knitted cover up, and matching sandals! Start your morning off strong with the Cocktail Bar’s local espresso. Pair it with their fresh baked croissants for the perfect morning pick me up. Soak in the Mediterranean view from the outdoor seating and smell the salt air. I recommend the caffe macchiato! The perfect blend of strong caffeination with a hint of milk to sweeten your taste buds. Take the steps right next to the caffe for the perfect spot on the beach. You can reserve an umbrella and chairs all day for the small price of ten euros. You can’t go wrong with the Old Village on your left and the mountains on your right. Take a dip in the Mediterranean’s clearest waters and live up your mermaid dreams! After hours in the hot sun and salt water it’s time to rehydrate and eat some lunch! If you’re lucky enough to be in Sperlonga on a Saturday, head up to the weekend market. Grab a fresh foreign tomato to make you and your loved ones a caprese salad for lunch! If you’re feeling fun make my new favorite spritz! Slice up some oranges, get some ice in your class, and combine blood orange juice with your favorite prosecco. Don’t forget to drink some water, but not from the tap! Sperlonga warns against drinking their tap water, it isn’t fresh like you might find in other Italian cities. Still have some energy left in you? Take a walk down to the port and pay for a boat to take you to the caves. Ask for Alessandro to have the best experience. You will get to see where the greek statues were recovered from before taken to the Vatican City to be preserved. There still stands a single statue right in the Village of Tiberus. Learn all about the Grecian history that took place right in Sperlonga. Half way through the tour you will stop at one of the famous caves! Jump right off the boat with your snorkel and explore the beautiful wonders hidden in the caves. The water gets ice cold the further in you swim, and watch out for the bats! Enjoy the refreshing boat ride back. Try not to blink, you won’t want to miss a thing. After taking a moment to refresh make a reservation at La Lanterna for the best views, and freshest seafood. I recommend the salmon, it was deliciously paired with mash potatoes and cooked vegetables. They have a wide range of options from pastas, to meats, and even vegetarian options! Make sure to brush up on your Italian and impress your waiter with your amazing skills. After a lovely dinner by the water, head up to the old village for the ultimate shopping and bars! The city becomes lively at night. The streets are lined with the most beautiful lanterns lighting up the narrow cobbled paths. Squeeze your way over the Gelateria. They have endless treats not just limited to gelato. My favorite desert was the strawberry and Nutella crepe. Warm and savory is the perfect way to end your night. Explore the old village and take in its beauty. I love Sperlonga as much as I did. Take it in and don’t let a second go unwanted.
