On Monday, September 23, cellist Damian Kremer and friends will present music for tenor, piano and cello. Mr. Kremer has served as principal cellist of several orchestras, including the Chautauqua Music Festival Orchestra and the Lansing Symphony, and for three years played with the New World Symphony Orchestra. He is a musician with the Charleston Symphony Orchestra and has taught in the College’s Music Department as an adjunct faculty member.

Tenor Stafford Wing and pianist Marmaduke Miles will join Mr. Kremer on stage.

Stafford Wing is the retired head of the voice department at the University of North Carolina, Chapel Hill, where he taught for 40 years. He has performed to critical acclaim around the world, singing in many different styles.

Marmaduke Miles was Professor of Piano at the University of North Carolina, Chapel Hill, for 17 years, before changing careers to one in social work and psychotherapy, which he practices in Savannah and Statesboro, Georgia. A wonderful and accomplished pianist, Dr. Miles still maintains an active performing schedule in the Southeast.

The gentlemen will open with three songs by Alexander Borodin for tenor, piano and cello. Following will be three songs for tenor and piano by Franz Schubert and the “Fantasy Pieces” for cello and piano by Robert Schumann. Afterward, they will perform three songs for voice and cello by Betty Roe, with text by Langston Hughes titled “Madam’s Three Callers.” The concert will close with the song cycle for tenor, piano and cello titled “The Caged Bird Sings” by our own Professor Edward Hart, with text by Paul Laurence Dunbar.
