Last week, we held the College of Charleston’s TLTCon. It was our first ever virtual conference because we didn’t have choice—thank you, COVID-19—but it was a great success in spite of a breakout room fiasco in the opening session—thank you, Zoom security updates. And, it turned out to be an international virtual conference with folks attending from as far away as India, Ireland, and Japan.Key to its success was the leadership of the one and only Mendi Benigni, the collaborative work of the TLT staff, and a robust repertoire of resilient presenters.
In the planning process, I had the special privilege of corresponding with our keynote speaker, James M. Lang, a professor of English and the director of the D’Amour Center for Teaching Excellence at Assumption College. His first lecture focused on his 2016 publication Small Teaching and his second on his 2013 publication Cheating Lessons. After the conference had ended, I had the added pleasure of talking with him about navigating the worlds of writing, teaching, and online course design. I hope you enjoy listening.
