Recently, a group of divers discovered a 2,400-year-old Greek merchant vessel at the bottom of the Black Sea. That puts the ship in the same time period as Plato, Aristotle, Demosthenes, Philip II of Macedon, and Alexander the Great. The reason it has remained so well-preserved stems from the depth at which it rests: over a mile deep. What is really fascinating about its design is that, even though its the first of its kind to be found, it matches pictures found on pottery from the 5th century BCE.
